APRIL 26, 2007 China and India will account for 60% of the 1.2 billion predicted new mobile subscribers over the next five years, according to a wide-ranging report from Global Insight's Telecoms Intermodal Forecasting Service. Mobile service in China will grow to 69% of the market by 2011, compared to 35% in 2006. 2007-04-26 Shanghai Telecom plans to invest US$519 million this year to upgrade the city's information technology infrastructure, including its wireless network and its existing broadband services. Under its plan, Shanghai Telecom will build 2,000 wireless access points in public areas and provide Wi-Fi services in 100 office buildings and hotels.
